Jeshurun Simeon is a 16-year-old, right-footed right winger coming through the Ajax youth academy, currently playing for the U19s and Jong Ajax this season. Simeon has played 5 games so far this season, with his fifth appearance being a start against Jong PSV. In those 5 games he hasn’t scored or assisted yet, but he’s shown he can handle himself on a big stage at just 16. He’s also played in the Youth League for Ajax and represents the Netherlands at U17 level.
Simeon stands around 1.75m, and at his age there’s still plenty of room to grow physically. He’s a typical fast-paced winger with very good agility. His acceleration over the first few meters is particularly strong, and it’s something he uses in almost every duel. Since he lacks the strength or length to shield the ball with his body, that first burst of speed is crucial to his game. This season in the KKD he’s already logged 132 minutes across 5 duels, and his start against Jong PSV showed he has the stamina to get through a full 90 minutes. He’s not the strongest in physical duels, but he tries to use his body smartly. In the air he’s not particularly strong, and it’s a part of his game he tends to avoid.
In possession, Simeon is an active player, constantly making himself available on the right wing. He’s dangerous in the dribble, using his speed and body to unbalance opponents. 1v1 is a real strength — he uses stepovers a lot to get himself into dangerous areas of the pitch. His passing is nothing special, but decent. Sometimes he puts a bit too much pace on his passes, and long passing isn’t really part of his game. One area to develop is his first touch and ball control — I think he has the ability to control the ball well, but he too often launches into his speed before settling it, and loses the ball in the process. Simeon is a dangerous player in the final third. He has a powerful shot but needs to become more clinical in front of goal. Right now his shots often lack a clear idea behind them — if he can develop better placement, the goals will come at this level, and the same goes for his 1v1s with the keeper. Because of his blistering speed, he doesn’t shoot from distance much, preferring to get into the box. That speed and his runs create a lot of chances for himself to reach scoring positions. Simeon likes to find teammates making runs and deliver the ball from deep, rather than putting in an early cross.
Out of possession, Simeon does his defensive duties decently, using his speed to press opponents high. His tracking back is a bit inconsistent — sometimes you see real effort and intensity, other times he switches off — but for a 16-year-old playing at this level, that’s something he’ll grow into step by step. His speed in transition and his reading of the game without the ball are both strong, and when he wins possession he knows exactly where to take it — that’s a real plus in my opinion.
Overall, Simeon is a very young, fast, goal-oriented winger who uses his speed, stepovers, and shooting to make himself dangerous on the right flank. If he can improve his shot placement, add more of a threat from outside the box, and sharpen up his tracking back, he’s genuinely someone to keep an eye on for Jong Ajax next season. If he keeps developing along this path, I think Simeon has the profile to break into Ajax 1 in the coming years — or, alternatively, a loan to a Dutch subtop side like Sparta or Utrecht could be a good step to gain first-team experience.
