The final of the Copa Sudamericana was won by Independiente del Valle, as they controlled most of the game and were the better side. The Ecuadorians played a 4-3-3 formation and tried to control the game by playing it out from the back, while Colon played in a 4-4-2 formation and played more direct. They tried to put pressure on Independiente del Valle, but the Ecuadorians were very calm in possession and managed to find the man in space constantly.

Gonzalo Escobar played as a left-back and he was one of the weaker players of Colón on the night. He constantly positioned himself wrongly and did not work together well with the other defenders. There was too much space between the left central defender and him and Independiente del Valle constantly made runs in that space. He did not make that much interceptions because of this reason and there was danger from his side often.
Nearly every time when Dájome received the pass, Escobar sprinted towards him to try and intercept the ball immediately. The Argentinian left-back lost every physical duel and aerial duels as he only stands at 1.71 and can’t compensate that with his jumping or strength. He is very average in possession, but he stayed calm in the defensive third occasionally and dribbled it out from the back while most players would have just kicked the ball away.

Alex Vigo played as a right-back and did not make a good impression. He had a tough time defending Jhon Sánchez, as he could not cope well with his pace and his average positioning did not help him as well. Vigo is very attacking-minded. However, he does not stand out in the attacking phase of play. He took too much time on the ball before he passed it and is not that press-resistant. In the physical duels he did okay.
