Facundo Medina

Player profile:

  • Nationality: Argentine
  • Age: 20
  • Date of birth: 28/05/1999
  • Current club: CA Talleres
  • Career: River Plate
  • Position: central defender
  • Secondary position: left-back
  • Preferred foot: left

The 20-year-old Argentine was a regular starter for Argentina under 23 next to Nehuén Pérez at the pre-Olympics tournament, where Argentina came out on top. He has been a regular starter for quite a while now at Talleres.

Medina is a smart defender who won nearly every duel by just anticipating well or pushing the attacker away slightly without giving away a foul. He outran his opponent in sprints, managed to keep a clean sheet and just deliver a dominant performance at centre-back.

In possession, Medina usually stands out, but against Colon, he had some sloppy long passes and he gave away the ball in some dangerous situations as well. However, he played some very good passes that broke lines. It was not up to Medina’s standards, but he still had an okay performance.

Rating: A1

He is ready to go to Europe. He would fit well at Benfica in my opinion.

Andrés Cubas

Player profile:

  • Nationality: Paraguayan (born in Argentina, has the Argentinian nationality as well)
  • Age: 23
  • Date of birth: 22/05/1996
  • Current club: CA Talleres
  • Career: Boca Juniors, Pescara & Defensa y Justicia
  • Position: defensive midfielder
  • Secondary position: central midfielder
  • Preferred foot: right

Andrés Cubas is a ball-winning defensive midfielder whose main qualities lay in defending. He is good at intercepting passes, tackling his opponent and winning defensive duels. However, sometimes he is too intense in the duels and he can be out of position at times.

He makes a lot of unnecessary fouls and can lack concentration at times. For example, when he receives the ball he sometimes does not check his shoulders which leads to possession loss because he turns the wrong way.

He mainly plays backwards or sideways passes, but when he does go forward, he often has a good pass in his locker. He once played a pass past a few opponents, creating a 4v4 situation for Talleres.

Rating: A2/B1

I’m not sure yet if he is able to move to a better team than Talleres.

Nahuel Bustos

Player profile:

  • Nationality: Argentine
  • Age: 21
  • Date of birth: 4/7/1998
  • Current club: CA Talleres
  • Career: CF Pachuca
  • Position: striker
  • Secondary position: left-winger, right-winger
  • Preferred foot: right

Nahuel Bustos also was part of the Argentina squad that went on to win the pre-Olympics tournament, but he had less of a role in the team. Bustos managed to score 9 goals and give 4 assists in 20 matches in the Superliga.

The Argentine striker has decent pace and physique to hold off defenders when he is being put under pressure. When he has the ball under control, it is hard to get him off the bal. However, his first touch is below average and his ball control is mediocre as well.

Like I’ve mentioned, once he has the ball under control he is able to do the right things on the pitch. He gave a good assist to Guilherme Parede, by giving a perfect pass. In defence, he sometimes tends to put pressure on the oppositions back-line when it’s not needed.

Rating: A2

Could move up to a better team and could succeed there if he’s being played in the right role. I think that he would suit well in a defensive minded team where he can make use of his pace and physique.

Guilherme Parede

Player profile:

  • Nationality: Brazil
  • Age: 24
  • Date of birth: 19/9/1995
  • Current club: CA Talleres
  • Career: Coritiba, Internacional & Ypiranga
  • Position: left-winger (in this match)
  • Secondary position: right-winger
  • Preferred foot: right

Guilherme Parede came to Talleres from Coritiba this winter and it looks like he has made a decent impact since coming to Talleres, scoring three goals and giving two assists in six games. He played as a left-winger this match, until Valoyes got subbed on which meant that Parede moved over to the right-wing position.

I really liked his performance. He timed his runs very well, making use of the sometimes poor positioning of Alex Vigo. Guilherme Parede was able to go both on the outside and the inside and he created danger doing both.

The winger showed good vision and awareness, Tenaglia came into a dangerous position because Parede made a dummy, attracting Vigo to follow him. Also, he gave a good through pass to Bustos.

Also, he made some runs in-behind to create space for Tenaglia to cut inside to his stronger right-foot and with a good run he scored a goal himself as well. He kept very composed and did well to finish on the edge of the box.

In defence, he worked very hard to recover possession during the times he lost the ball and he recovered possession with a good tackle.

Rating: A1

I think that Guilherme Parede could already move to a better team. However, he only just moved to Talleres so he will probably stay at Talleres.
