Odense and Aalborg clashed ahead of Matchday 21 of the Danish Superliga. Both teams lined up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, hoping to gain an advantage with an offensive style of play and secure some much-needed points. The first half was dominated by Odense. Tobias Slotsager

  • Nationality: Danish
  • Age: 17
  • Date of Birth: 01/01/2006
  • Current Club: Odense Boldklub
  • Career: Odense Boldklub (Y)
  • Position: Centre Back
  • Preferred Foot: Right

Slotsager made his starting debut for Odense in a left-centre defender position during the match against Aalborg. Despite being only 17 years old, he already displays impressive physical attributes standing at 1,89m with a lean build, decent acceleration and sprint speed. He isn’t strong in aerial duels just yet, as he was easily outmuscled in the air a couple of times. However, he showcased a very good heading ability and technique as he was always very effective when he managed to head the ball. Besides, he even managed to score a very good header, but it was disallowed due to offside in the build-up. The young defender showed an excellent sense of spatial and defensive awareness, making well-timed clearances and positioning himself effectively. Although he could have been more aggressive when contesting duels, he put together a good defensive performance, finishing the game with several defensive actions, including several clearances and blocked shots. Furthermore, it should be noted that Aalborg’s offence didn’t pose much of a threat to Slotsager during the game, resulting in a relatively low number of defensive duels for the young defender.

Even when facing pressure from his opponents, Slotsager demonstrated good confidence and composure playing from the back, allowing him to use his weaker foot effectively when necessary. He never panicked or made hasty decisions, always taking his time to make the right pass. He displayed solid passing technique in short and long-range passes and finished the game with an 81% pass accuracy. Additionally, the Danish defender showed signs of being comfortable carrying the ball from the back and sporadically did so effectively. Despite his young age and it being his starting debut, Slotsager remained composed and confident throughout the game, already demonstrating mental toughness and resilience.

Rating – A2

Tobias Slotsager showed great potential in his starting debut for Odense. Despite his young age of only 17, he already displays impressive physical attributes and excellent positional awareness. While he may need to improve his strength and aggressiveness in duels, his heading ability and technique are already very good. He is confident and composed playing from the back and demonstrates solid passing technique, both short and long-range. With time and development, I believe Slotsager has the potential to become a formidable central defender at a much higher level of competition.
