Christos Zafeiris (FK Haugesund) – Scout Report

This report was originally written in July 2022 for our 10k followers special which you can find here and since writing Zafeiris made a transfer to Slavia Prague.

After two seasons with Grorud IL in the Norwegian 2nd tier Christos Zafeiris completed his move to FK Haugesund in the Norwegian Eliteserien earlier this year. The midfielder has easily adapted to the Eliteserien and hasn’t missed a missed minute for Haugesund so far this season. Recently Zafeiris captained Norway U19 in the qualifications for the Euros.

Zafeiris mostly plays as central- or attacking midfielder for Haugesund, but also played as a ‘six’ for Norway U19 and Grorud IL. Standing at 5’8” you probably don’t expect a lot of him on the physical side of the game but he actually does very well in duels. He has good upper body strength and does very well in his defensive duels. As an attacking midfielder for Haugesund, he works very hard pressing his opponents with a lot of aggression and urgency, without making a lot of fouls.

Technically the 19-year-old is very strong. He often roams to the wings when his side has possession to receive the ball there. He prefers his right foot, but has a very strong left foot as well which he even uses for some long passes. His dribbling is also very strong, as he is able to always keep the ball very close to him, also at higher speeds or when changing direction, and he is very unpredictable as he is not scared to shoot or cross with his left foot.

Zafeiris is a player who likes to take risks and plays with a lot of confidence but has to be careful he doesn’t overdo it. However, in this current FK Haugesund side, it sometimes feels like everything has to come through him since they lack some creativity. In a side where there are more players who can create chances, he would do even better.

It looked like Christos Zafeiris effortlessly adapted to the level of the Norwegian Eliteserien. If he improves his end product slightly, I’m sure that he could make a transfer abroad. I would really like to see him in the Netherlands or in Belgium in a side that likes to play possession-based football.
