Harold Osorio (Alianza FC) – Scout Report

Harold Osorio is an 18-year-old central midfielder who recently completed his move to Chicago Fire from Alianza FC. Osorio was El Salvador’s U20 captain in the CONCACAF U20 Championships. He was one of their most important players, creating multiple goal-scoring opportunities.

The midfielder from El Salvador stands at around 1.82 meters and has a normal build. Osorio is not that athletic. Even though he is fairly quick on the first few meters, Osorio struggles to change directions quickly and does not move that smoothly. The midfielder has good speed over long distances. He is strong on the ball, holding off opponents well and being able to shrug off opponents.

Osorio stands out in the technical area, having excellent ball control and keeping the ball on a string when dribbling. The youngster has a great first touch under pressure and is capable of playing good first-time passes. Osorio does not need much time on the ball, as he always does well to scan and knows where his teammates are. Sometimes he does turn the wrong way though.

The new Chicago Fire signing is a very creative passer. Osorio has excellent vision and always spots his teammates in space. He is a very high-volume through passer and has an okay rate of successful passes. Osorio will lose the ball plenty of times, but he will also create a few chances every game. His passing technique is very good and this allows him to be creative on the ball.

He sometimes needs to make his actions with more speed, as he always seems to play at the same ‘low’ tempo. This is something that is very important to keep an eye out for in the MLS (Next Pro). There are enough reasons to believe that he will adapt quickly, but this may be a problem for Osorio in the future.

Osorio always plays with great intensity out of possession and has a great work rate. He has decent tackling ability and his defensive positioning is good too. Osorio is positively aggressive in ground duels.

Moving to the MLS Next Pro is a move that I had anticipated for Harold Osorio. Even though his first performance was much better than his other performances in the CONCACAF U20 Championships, I believe that he is a talented midfielder who can succeed in the MLS. It will be interesting to see more players from El Salvador in the MLS Next Pro in the upcoming years.
