Violette Athletic Club lost 0-3 against Cibao FC in the opening match of the CONCACAF Caribbean Club Championship. The Haitian club set up in a 4-2-3-1 with a balanced playing style, trying to put Cibao FC under early pressure. However, the Dominicans were simply the better team and were capable of playing out of pressure pretty easily. The Haitians created several shooting opportunities but failed to create a lot of danger in front of Miguel Lloyd’s goal. In the end, some sloppy defending led to the 1-0 and Cibao FC managed to expand their lead in the second half with goals through Christian Alba and Yohan Parra.

Steevenson Jeudy

- Nationality: Haitian
- Age: 17
- Date of birth: 17/10/2004
- Club: Violette AC
- Career: América, Violette AC
- Position: Striker
- Preferred foot: Right
Steevenson Jeudy played as a striker for Violette AC. The striker was very active when Violette AC were in possession. The Haitian was always trying to run into space to stretch the defence or to create opportunities for himself. Jeudy was not often found, mostly because his teammates lacked vision and quality to play those through passes. The 17-year-old also liked to drift out wide in possession. He often created passing angles for the wing-backs when they were put under pressure. The Haitian has a good first touch under pressure and is good at holding up play with his back towards the goal. The striker liked to drop deeper in possession and often created space for himself to receive the ball in space between the lines in Violette’s build-up. Generally, he had pretty good movement in possession.
He only sporadically touched the ball though because he was not often found by his teammates. His passing technique was good and his link-up play seemed decent. Steevenson Jeudy has a decent shooting technique with his left foot. He found the target with his attempt, but his effort was comfortably saved by Cibao’s goalkeeper Miguel Lloyd. There was one situation in which he had the chance to take a shot from the edge of the box, but he was a bit too wild and mishit the shot completely. In the last minutes of the game, Jeudy made a late challenge which resulted in a yellow card. He seemed very frustrated.
Rating – A2
Steevenson Jeudy seems to have some sort of potential, but I would need to watch more footage of him to determine whether he would ever be an option for higher-level leagues.
Elyvens Déjean

- Nationality: Haitian
- Age: 23
- Date of birth: 20/10/1998
- Club: Violette AC
- Career: Don Bosco FC, Violette AC
- Position: Right-Wing
- Preferred foot: Right
Déjean, standing at around 175cm with a normal build, looked strong in the physical duels. The 23-year-old managed to hold off his opponents when dribbling very well and was not pushed off the ball. This helped him to stay in possession. In addition, Déjean had good acceleration and maintained his speed over longer distances. The Haitian winger has good changes of directions. The winger mostly provided width for Violette AC. Though, he also liked to have an impact in Cibao’s box. In the box, Déjean proved to have good movement in the box, creating a big opportunity for himself in the first half. His finishing ability on his weaker left foot was good, but his effort was saved by the Cibao goalkeeper.
The Haitian looked like he is an intelligent player. Dejean nearly found teammate Jeudi in the box, but his cross was well-defended. Elyvens Dejean liked to play plenty of smart passes. His passing accuracy was not very high though, as some of his passes were quite sloppy. There was one moment in which Dejean made a stupid decision when he took a shot from 35 meters. Elyvens Déjean showed good technical ability throughout the match, which helped him to get past opponents in the small spaces. However, I would like to see him get more involved in the game next match, as I think he could help Violette AC create more chances in front of the opponent’s goal. With his dribbling down the line and his crossing ability, he could have good attacking output.
Rating – B2
I don’t think, at the age of 23, that Déjean has a lot of potential to reach higher-level leagues. However, I could be wrong as this is the first time that I watched him.
