After a 5-1 defeat to KAA Gent Beerschot bounced back with a convincing 6-3 win over STVV. After just 40 minutes Hernán Losada’s Beerschot was already scored five goals, which allowed them to slow down a little. Just before half time STVV did something back after a nice goal by Filippov and after an individual mistake Yuma Suzuki even scored the 5-2. It didn’t look like STVV were going to come back in this match however, as Beerschot remained very calm. Just a couple of minutes after Suzuki’s goal Ismaila Coulibaly scored another goal for the hosts, making it 6-2. In the final 20 minutes Beerschot gave the initiative to STVV who on their turn scored the ninth goal of the game.

Ismaila Coulibaly

Player profile:
- Nationality: Malian
- Age: 19
- Date of birth: 25/12/2000
- Current club: Beerschot (On loan from Sheffield United)
- Career: CS Duguwolofila, Sarpsborg 08, Sheffield United, Beerschot (L)
- Position: Defensive Midfield
- Secondary position: Centre Midfield
- Preferred foot: Right
Ismaila Coulibaly started for the second time for Beerschot and also managed to score his second goal for the club. Earlier this season I watched Coulibaly play for Sarpsborg 08 FF. It was his first start of the season in the Norwegian Eliteserien and he impressed me quite a bit, but also made his fair share of mistakes. Coulibaly got picked up by Sheffield United this summer, who then loaned him out to Beerschot.
Coulibaly played in a very similar role for Beerschot as he used to do for Sarpsborg, playing as the left sided defensive midfielder in a formation with three central defenders and two wing backs. Just like in Norway Coulibaly wasn’t very involved in the build up play, but the moments he was on the ball he really impressed me. As I said earlier he made quite some mistakes when I watched him play for Sarpsborg, but against STVV he looked very confident on the ball. He was really calm with the ball on his feet and was very press resistant, easily turning away for his direct opponent. His passing looked really good and even when there were a lot of opponents close to him, he still managed to find a teammate. He even showed that he can play a great long pass with his ‘weak’ left foot.
Defensively I don’t think he did as well as he could this game. I felt like he really lacked some aggression and didn’t put enough intensity in his duels, which resulted in him not winning some defensive duels. He still made some very important tackles and covered a lot of ground. Coulibaly always seemed to be in the right position, following the ball nicely and sitting quite narrow when the ball was on the other side of the pitch. Beerschot had a few moments where they really tried to press STVV, which Coulibaly did well being in the right places.
In the 57th minute Coulibaly got rewarded for his hard work. After a cross from the left was poorly cleared by the STVV defense Coulibaly smashed the ball in the back of the net with his left foot.
Rating – A2
Ismaila Coulibaly has really grown as a player and I didn’t expect such a good performance from him. Physically he surely has some work to do, but he should have a great season in the Belgian Pro League this year.
Reda Halaimia

Player profile:
- Nationality: Algerian
- Age: 24
- Date of birth: 28/08/1996
- Current club: Beerschot
- Career: MC Oran, Beerschot
- Position: Right Back
- Secondary Position: Left Back
- Preferred foot: Right
Reda Halaimia played as the right wing back this game and had a mixed performance. The 5’11” defender was found a lot on STVV’s half when pressing their left wing back or when offering width offensively. On the ball Halaimia was pretty sloppy. He showed to have okay technique for a defender, but was quite sloppy in his passing. He put in a couple of nice crosses, but was pretty inconsistent with his crosses since some other crosses were quite poor as well. In the 49th minute STVV tried to press Halaimia, who then played a very poor pass back to his goalkeeper. STVV’s striker Yuma Suzuki intercepted the ball and scored the 5-2.
Defensively it was a difficult game for Halaimia, but he didn’t do all that bad. Often he had two opponents to defend with STVV’s having two players out on the left at times. His decisions in these situations were quite good and they didn’t create too much danger. In his defensive 1v1s Halaimia also did alright, winning most of them. He was often just very patient waiting for his opponent to make a small mistake or play the ball back.
With the ball at his feet Halaimia looked pretty static. He didn’t seem to have the skills to easily beat his opponent on the right and mostly just played simple passes if he didn’t have to opportunity to cross. When he didn’t have the ball in the final third, he was still pretty active making some good under- and overlapping runs.
Rating – C
Halaimia was very average this game and an individual mistake was the cause of one of STVV’s goals.
Yan Vorogovskiy

Player profile:
- Nationality: Kazach
- Age: 24
- Date of birth: 07/08/1996
- Current club: Beerschot
- Career: Ak-Bulak, Sunkar Kaskelen, Kaysar Kyzylorda, Kairat Almaty, Beerschot
- Position: Left Back
- Secondary Position: Right Back
- Preferred foot: Left
I’ve seen Yan Vorogovskiy play some very good matches, but his performance against STVV was quite disappointing. The left wing back wasn’t involved enough in Beerschot’s game and was invisible most of the game. In the 7th minute he almost let STVV back in the game when he spotted Sankhon’s run in the box too late, who then missed a big chance. He didn’t make any real mistakes defensively the rest of the game, but did’t impress either. He looked quite careful in his duels and seemed to miss some aggression.
On the ball Vorogovskiy made quite some mistakes as well. His passing was pretty sloppy in this game and he was quite unlucky with some dribbles. The left wing back looked quite fast with good acceleration, but didn’t create anything for his team on the half of STVV. He showed that he can take on an opponent offensively, but only did this once throughout the whole match. After 70 minutes he got substituted off.
Rating – C
It was a good performance from Beerschot, but Vorogovskiy didn’t play well himself. He didn’t see much off the ball and when he did get the ball he didn’t do very well
