TRABZONSPOR – MATCH REPORT VS MKE ANKARAGUCU 27/06/20

Trabzonspor started quickly at the beginning of the game, scoring in the third minute of the match through their serial goal scorer, Alexander Sorloth. After that goal, the team increasingly had difficulty with creating chances and were rarely able to threaten in the first half. With this incapacity to totally dominate, they permitted Ankaragucu to get better during the match. So, Ankaragucu got stronger with Gerson Rodrigues, who was dangerous, as he won and scored the penalty that lead to them equalising. After the second yellow card of Gerson Rodrigues, Ankaragucu finished the game with 10 players and this numerical advantage allowed Trabzonspor to finish the match with more attacking intent, but with this lack of creativity and efficiency in front of goal, Trabzonspor was unable to take the lead even with the extra man.

Abdülkadir Ömür

Player Profile

  • Nationality: Turkish
  • Age: 21
  • Date of birth: 25/06/1999
  • Current Club: Trabzonspor
  • Career: Trabzonspor (Y)
  • Position: Right Wing / Right Midfielder
  • Secondary Position: Attacking Midfielder / Central Midfielder
  • Preferred foot: Left

After a long absence due to an injury, Abdulkadir Omur came back before the break of the Super Lig. Since the return of the Super Lig, he has again started to be an important player for the team. He played as a Right Midfielder, a position that enables him to easily cut inside on his left foot and create danger.

He’s not a tall player (168 cm) but he takes advantage of his low centre gravity to be dominant with the ball. He is a technical player who can rely on his great ball control to keep control with the ball and dribble. When he has the ball at his feet, it’s almost impossible to take it off him. His tight ball control permits him to dominate close spaces, to dribble and open up space, this ability permits him to be influential in the final third with this ability to accelerate and create an unbalance in the rival’s lines. With 7 dribbles succeeded and a success rate of 100%, he was the most effective player in this area. He came to get the ball in deeper positions, even with his back to the game with his agility and quickness of movement he could easily get away from his defender to accelerate and drive the ball forward. In higher positions, he cut inside with his left foot and was able to combine and accelerate to penetrate in the final third. He made good incursions in the opposition penalty area, but he lacked precision in his final ball to take full advantage.

He has great coordination with good balance, this permitted him to confront his opponents in challenges. He positioned himself very well to recover the ball but also to keep the control of the ball, forcing his opponent to commit a foul on him trying to get back the ball. He is not afraid to confront his rival in physical contests, during this match he was the player involved in the second most duels (25 ground duels) and the player with the most success in ground duels (15 ground duels won). His height did not help his aerial ability, he did not win any aerial duels that he competed for, but this aspect is not really important for him, it’s not in this area that we expect him to be influential on the field.

Alexander Sorloth

Player Profile

  • Nationality: Norwegian
  • Age: 24
  • Date of birth: 05/12/1995
  • Current Club: Trabzonspor
  • Career: Rosenborg (Y), Bodø/Glimt (L), Groningen, Midtjylland, Crystal Palace, KAA Gent (L), Trabzonspor (L)
  • Position: Striker
  • Preferred foot: Left

Alexander Sorloth played as striker with the responsibility to provide a presence in attack to help to drive the ball forward but also to find positions to score.

He’s a tall player (194 cm), he takes advantage of his height to offer an option in direct play and set pieces to win aerial duels. During the match he was the player with most successful aerial duels (8 aerial duels succeeded with a ratio of success of 100%). For his goal, he did well with his first touch with his head after receiving the pass from Abdulkadir Parmak to find the position to shoot and score his 20th goal of the season in the Super Lig. With this imposing physical presence, it could be thought that he only uses this asset to play as a Target Man, playing only with his physical assets to free up space for his partner, but on the contrary, he shows great energy, offering support in direct play, but also offering movement in depth, attacking wide positions to compensate for the inside movement of wide players with this ability to drive the ball forward dribbling at opponents to open up space to shoot or pass. He shows agility and speed despite his physicality and this allows him to offer a variety of play to influence the attack.

During this match, he suffered from the lack of creativity amongst his teammates, but also the high number of fouls committed during the match, a lot of promising situations were stopped by this. He could not find a lot of good attacking positions from which to threaten. He tried to initiate attacking moves, but there was a lack of precision in the final ball, which was a problem for most of the team’s attackers. He also missed a good opportunity in the penalty area, one of the few good situations created by Trabzonspor.
