CA Belgrano – Match Report vs. CA Barracas Central 22/02/20

The match between Barracas Central and Belgrano ended in a 2-3 win for the visitors. Barracas set up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with the attacking midfielder Valenzuela being allowed to drift wide and roam around the pitch. Belgrano played in a 4-3-3 formation. The match was marked by a lot of fouls and direct play. Both teams looked to progress further up the pitch when they got the chance. Barracas liked to be a bit more patient and played a high defensive line, while Belgrano sat a bit deeper. In the end, a draw would have been more deserved.

Ratings:

  • A1 – Very good, could play higher
  • A2 – Strong potential to play higher
  • B1 – Good, strong player at level
  • B2 – Potential to be a strong player at level
  • C – Average for their level, re-watch
  • D – Below average in this match

Joaquin Novillo

  • Nationality: Argentine
  • Age: 22
  • Date of birth: 19/02/1998
  • Club: Belgrano
  • Career: Belgrano (Y)
  • Position: central defender
  • Preferred foot: left

Joaquin Novillo played as a left central defender in the match against Barracas Central. The 22-year-old liked to step out of the defensive line and was very aggressive in doing so. He timed this well and got into the defensive duels often, in which he kept looking at the ball. Novillo timed his interceptions well and looked very strong in the defensive duels. The Argentinian defender came in front of his opponent often and looked comfortable in defence. The central defender closed gaps towards the wing well, but from this position, he got dribbled past quite easily and this ended in a goal for the opponent. Novillo showed good aerial ability and it certainly helped that he is above 190cm. On the ball, he looked okay but his ball-playing ability is certainly not what stands out about him.

Rating – A1

I think that he could make a step up to one of the bottom half teams in the Superliga.

Bruno Amione

  • Nationality: Argentine
  • Age: 18
  • Date of birth: 03-01-2002
  • Club: Belgrano
  • Career: Belgrano (Y)
  • Position: central defender
  • Secondary position: left-back and right-back
  • Preferred foot: left

Bruno Amione played as a left-back in this match. It could be seen that this is not his natural position and that he sometimes had a hard time. The 18-year-old did well to stay very narrow. He liked to step out of the defensive line whenever he thought he had the chance to do so, and often timed this well. During the times that he got past, he had the acceleration to get back in the duel. Even though he stands at 187cm, he is quite fast and has good pace and acceleration.

Occasionally, he was not in line with the rest of the defence as he positioned himself a little bit higher up the pitch, which nearly got him into trouble when Barracas made a run in behind on the right. Amione also had trouble when he needed to defend the agile Valenzuela, who managed to get past him quite easily. Also, he got dragged out of position at times by the right winger. On the ball, Amione looked quite comfortably but he did not really like to make overlapping runs which is understandable as it is not his natural position.

Rating: A1

Even though he did not play well at left-back, I think he has the qualities to be a very good central defender. I am looking forward to watch some more matches of him in which he plays as a central defender.
