Eintracht Frankfurt – Match Report vs Bayern Munich 23/05/20

The Bundesliga leaders came away 5-2 winners over Adi Hütter’s Frankfurt side. Frankfurt were set up in a 4-2-3-1 and rarely got a foothold into the game and were dominated in terms of possession. Their two goals came from Hinteregger, their centre back who scored a brace from set pieces, he is their top scorer this season with eight goals. Andre Silva worked hard to chase scraps but without success and they were unable to stop this dominant Bayern Munich side.

Almamy Touré

Player Profile:

  • Nationality: French
  • Age: 24
  • Date of birth: 28/04/1996
  • Current Club: Eintracht Frankfurt
  • Career: Monaco, Eintracht Frankfurt
  • Position: Right Back
  • Preferred foot: Right

Playing at right back in the back four, Toure had a mixed performance. He’s 6’0″ with a big build and was a powerful runner and used his physicality in defence. He wanted to press out of the line and was comfortable defending in the middle third. He gets tight to his man, using his body well to initiate a duel and won fouls from this a few times and was very strong.

However in the defensive third he was weak defensively. He lost concentration and had poor awareness, looking very casual. He lost the intensity and commitment he showed in the midfield when the ball came to his wing. He was ball watching at times and had poor awareness, with bad marking and moved lethargically.

He was able to drive into space a few times after his side won the ball deep and showed decent overall pace even if he lacked explosiveness and his acceleration wasn’t great. He made a lot of crosses from wide areas but didn’t cross from deep. One was over hit on the counter, two were blocked but the others were okay quality but his team weren’t able to capitalise. In buildup Toure wasn’t used that much but on the ball he was comfortable although static at times. He regularly tried long balls over the top or into the striker but didn’t come off, although the technique was okay they weren’t always on and could have retained possession better.

Rating – B2

Evan N’Dicka

Player Profile:

  • Nationality: French
  • Age: 20
  • Date of birth: 20/08/1999
  • Current Club: Eintracht Frankfurt
  • Career: Auxerre, Eintracht Frankfurt
  • Position: Centre Back
  • Secondary Position: Left Back
  • Preferred foot: Left

Playing at left back in this game, N’Dicka failed to make an impact before being taken off at half time. He only attempted 14 passes, none of which were into the final third and were mainly very short passes along the touch line. In buildup he was against the touchline and although he adjusted his positioning, he didn’t want to receive the ball and wasn’t comfortable in possession in tight spaces, not wanting to travel with the ball.

He lacked the pace to deal with Kingsley Coman and it was a difficult mismatch for N’Dicka. He was often exposed in 2v1s against Coman and Pavard and was therefore bypasses easily, but his positioning wasn’t bad. Although he could have made more effort to block crosses at times and his body position could have been more side-on. Around the box he was ball watching at times and needed to scan more. For Bayern’s second goal he was also too busy appealing for a foul on a teammate to try and block Muller’s shot.

Rating – C

Not a great performance and was understandably replaced at half time. I’d like to see him play at centre back as that is his stronger position.

Andre Silva

Player Profile:

  • Nationality: Portuguese
  • Age: 24
  • Date of birth: 06/11/1995
  • Current Club: Eintracht Frankfurt, on loan from AC Milan
  • Career: Porto, AC Milan, Sevilla (L), Eintracht Frankfurt (L)
  • Position: Striker
  • Preferred foot: Right

Silva was very isolated up front in this game as his side had very little of the ball. He worked hard to chase scraps and although his work rate and commitment was good, he lacked the physicality and support to make an impact. He roamed quite a bit to support teammates and try to receive the ball and made two good passes forward. He tried to drive on the counter and used feints well but was swarmed and had no support. Overall, there wasn’t much to see from his but he did show glimpses of quality and I’d like to watch him again against better matched opposition.

Rating – C
