Argel Silva

Player profile:

  • Nationality: Venezuelan
  • Age: 22
  • Date of birth: 23/11/1997
  • Current Club: Portuguesa FC
  • Career: Portuguesa FC (Y)
  • Position: defensive midfielder
  • Secondary position: left-back
  • Preferred foot: left

Argel Silva played as a defensive midfielder. He was not agile and not that quick on the first few meters. He did not anticipate well as he constantly chose wrongly in defence, as he thought he was cutting the passing lane but in fact he just got dribbled past easily. This meant that he sometimes needed to foul his opponent as well.

However, when he came into the duels he was quite strong and won most of them. He positioned himself well to recover possession when Monagas cleared it. Also, he positioned himself well in the first phase of the build-up at times, as he sometimes tried his hardest to get into space.

Rating: B2

I think he could become a strong player at this level, but I can’t see him playing at a much higher level.

Angelo Lucena

Player profile:

  • Nationality: Venezuelan
  • Age: 17
  • Date of birth: 26/03/2003
  • Current Club: Portuguesa FC
  • Career: Portuguesa FC (Y)
  • Position: attacking midfielder
  • Preferred foot: right

Angelo Lucena played as a left central midfielder and showed some very promising signs. At the time of the match, he was only 16 years old. Lucena has great technical abilities as he manages to control the ball well and his first touch is very good as well. He is very calm in possession and does not panic when he is put under pressure.

In possession, he drifted wide at times to provide an extra passing option down the wing. He showed good awareness as he scanned a lot and did the right things after, like turning the right side. His physique is, even though he is only 1,68m alright and if he does some work in the gym it could be good enough in the future.

In the 63rd minute, he set an attack up and after playing two short combinations in the tight spaces with his teammates, he got into an 1-on-1 with the goalie, which he missed as he shot it narrowly wide. Also, he managed to play some smart passes to his teammates.

Rating: A2

I think that Lucena has a great future ahead of him and he could certainly move to Europe in the future.

Jhon Marchán

Player profile:

  • Nationality: Venezuelan
  • Age: 21
  • Date of birth: 02/09/1998
  • Current Club: Sporting Cristal Lima
  • Career: Portuguesa FC (Y), Portuguesa FC
  • Position: right midfielder
  • Secondary position: central midfielder, attacking midfielder & left midfielder
  • Preferred foot: left

Jhon Marchán played as a right central midfielder and it was a frustrating match from his side. The midfielder is agile, physically good enough to hold off opponents and he got a good kicking technique. However, the 21-year-old carried the ball way too much and he often got himself into trouble as he wanted to get past too many opponents.

He was very sloppy in his passing as well which he does not need as he has a good kicking technique as mentioned above. He did not want to use his right foot it seemed. In defence, he did not do much and when he tried to defend, he got dribbled past easily.

Rating: A2 / B2

I don’t know about this one. He’s got some ability on him, but he needs to learn to not carry the ball for too long and to not be an individualistic player. He already moved to Sporting Cristal and it will be interesting to keep an eye out for him.
