Lanus had come from playing three days ago in a very tough game where they beat São Paulo 3-2 in the Copa Sudamericana. The lack of physical intensity was noted at times, which normally is an outstanding quality of the team. Lanús played in a 4-3-3 formation in possession, but defended in a 4-5-1 out of possession in a low-middle block. They were not able to dominate possession or create many goal-scoring chances. Their best moments were when their midfielders played passes to each other in midfield.
In defense, when lacking intensity in pressure and with stretched lines, Boca had moments where it found spaces and generated danger. In a match where it was not very bright, Boca generated more goal situations, and in general levels it was a fair winner.
Ratings:
- A1 – Very good, could play higher
- A2 – Strong potential to play higher
- B1 – Good, strong player at level
- B2 – Potential to be strong player at level
- C – Average for the level, re-watch
- D – Below average in this match
Alexandro Bernabei
- Nationality: Argentine
- Age: 20
- Date of Birth: 09/24/2000
- Club: Club Atlético Lanús
- Career: Club Atlético Lanús
- Position: Left Wing / Left Back
- Preferred foot: Left
Alexandro Bernabei played the majority of the game as a left winger and moved to the left-back position early on in the second half.
He is a very offensive player, but he is more dangerous coming from behind as a surprise than playing as an attacker. His main task was trying to contain the tandem Buffarini – Salvio, and in many moments he couldn’t complete the dribbles he attempted. He was tired and uncomfortable with his position. He lost most of the offensive duels, and could never be a threat to the oppositions defence.
In defence, tactically he was tasked to follow his opponents, and to pressure the defence. On the other hand, in defensive duels he was outstrengthened by physical power many times. He is always a determined player, and ready to return at full speed in defensive transitions.
In attack, his virtues are speed, surprise to find interior spaces and the great shooting ability he has. Technically he is good and safe in passing, something that could not be appreciated in this match. He really had a very weak game, since in all its facets he disappointed. He couldn’t stand out with his speed, and lost most of his offensive duels. He is in charge of the set pieces from the left, and most of the time he could not overcome the first oppositions player in the corners and free throws. As an exception, he gave the corner on Sand’s tying goal.
Despite switching to his usual left-back role, his game continued to be weak in all respects.
Rating: B2
He didn’t have a good game, but I think playing in a position that is not the most comfortable for him affected him. He had been playing good games as left back, mainly in offense where he was one of the tops last season. I believe he has the potential to continue growing, and in the future will emigrate to Europe, perhaps minor leagues.
Tomás Belmonte
- Nationality: Argentine
- Age: 22
- Date of Birth: 05/27/1998
- Club: Club Atlético Lanús
- Career: Club Atlético Lanús
- Position: Central Midfielder
- Preferred foot: Right
Tomás Belmonte is a central midfielder with a tough personality. He is aggressive on the mark and generally commits a lot of fouls. His sacrifice and commitment to the team are always present. In the passing game he is decent.
Positionally he is very good: he launches pressure, hedges, supports his teammates permanently. Generally, he is very alert and focused throughout the game. His intelligence for reading the game is a virtue, and makes him a player with many possibilities for improvement.
On the offensive side, he has good progressive passes, and must improve long passes. He is shown as an option permanently, and has no problem playing when being pressed. He likes to drop deep between the two central defenders and to dictate play from there. Generally, he makes good decisions in all sectors of the field and recognizes the best options where to play.
Technically and in ball control he is good, although at times he exceeds in his confidence risking too much. He played a good game and was one of the best Lanús players without a doubt. He had a goal situation, where he dribbled inside the area and shot to the goal.
One issue to improve is his self-control, as he sometimes gets into unnecessary fights against rivals and tends to get yellow cards.
Rating: A1
Belmonte was a starting player in the last Pre-Olympic Games where Argentina ended in first place. I am confident that he is prepared to make the jump to Europe, probably to a second-line team of the 5 major leagues, or maybe minor leagues in Europe.
Facundo Pérez
- Nationality: Argentine
- Age: 21
- Date of Birth: 07/31/1999
- Club: Club Atlético Lanús
- Career: Club Atlético Lanús
- Position: Central Right Midfielder
- Preferred foot: Right
Facundo Pérez played as a right central midfielder. He is a midfielder with good technique and good passing. Committed to the team, he is a player sacrificed in defending, and he is fully committed to intercept passes and recover possession. He is somewhat slow and sometimes struggles defensively against agile and skilled players. Cardona won several duels and at times Pérez suffered defensively.
In defense he made an important physical performance, because it was the first line of pressure in oppositions game construction, and had to do quite long runs. He has no problems fighting for each ball, and he has a very strong personality that sometimes turns against him.
In the build-up phase, he is always a good option, despite an imprecise start to the match. Passing, he improved as the match went on and became the leader of Lanús’s midfield, with his good filtered passes and great ball retention. He made some good long progressive passes, which allowed him to advance on the field. He likes to arrive at the opponents area by surprise, and in one of the most dangerous plays of the game, he broke lines and had a clear shot but the goalkeeper stopped it.
In the second half, he felt the affects of having played three days ago, and was replaced at minute 23 of Second Half.
Rating: B2.
He is a young player who has the potential to continue growing and improving some aspects of his game.
Pedro de la Vega
- Nationality: Argentine
- Age: 19
- Date of Birth: 02/07/2001
- Club: Club Atlético Lanús
- Career: Club Atlético Lanús
- Position: Right Wing
- Preferred foot: Right
Pedro De La Vega is a player who appeared in the Argentine League in an exceptional way. He caught everyone’s attention and was called to be one of the future stars of Argentina. This season seems to be the one of consolidation, but it has not started in such an extraordinary way.
He is a player who stands out for his dynamics and power, standing out for acceleration and turning his opponent in his career so far. He plays from the right wing, but he likes to tuck inside in order to be nearer to the penalty area, and many times he finishes as a central striker taking advantage of his scoring ability and outstanding aerial game. In Lanús’ goal, he made a great assist with his head.
He has a very good driving speed although sometimes he hits into the rival defender, choosing the wrong place to attack. Undoubtedly, some issues to improve are better decision-making on offense and the interpretation of spaces. In this game he was very imprecise and could not dribble the rivals as he is used to. He is a very persevering player and has a mental strength, and he always stays positive.
Defensively he is a totally committed player, and he has no problem following the opponents left-back to his goal. He has a tremendous intensity to press, but he must improve to choose correctly the moments to do it.
Overall it was a mediocre game for the winger and he was replaced at 23 minutes of the second half. Anyway, his statistics mark him as a decisive player in direct participations in goals.
Rating: A2
It was not a standout game for, but he is a player with a promising future, due to his technical, physical and mental qualities. Big clubs of Europe are following his evolution.
