Sportivo Luqueño played an home game against Olimpia and set-up in a 4-4-2 formation. They dominated the first half against Olimpia and managed to get an early advantage as Pitta scored two goals in the first ten minutes. Olimpia controlled the game after 35 minutes and managed to score twice in the second half. They also played in a 4-4-2 formation.

Isidro Pitta

  • Nationality: Paraguayan
  • Age: 20
  • Date of birth: 14/08/1999
  • Club: Sportivo Luqueño
  • Career: CD Santaní
  • Position: Striker
  • Preferred foot: Right

Isidro Pitta played as a striker and managed to score two goals early in the game to give Luqueño the lead. The first goal was scored after he made a good run into the box where he used his good acceleration to get in front of his markers to then head the ball into the back of the net. He missed a very big chance later in the first half with his head. He got good power behind his headers but missed accuracy, as his first goal shouldn’t have been a goal as well. He scored the 2-0 after beating his defender using his pace and strength to then dribble past an opponent. He finished the chance off very calmly.

The Paraguayan striker had an unorthodox style as he was quite heavy-build, but he was quite quick and relatively agile, even though he was a bit heavy-footed of course. He could beat his opponents with pace and used his body well. He had a lot of energy to put pressure on the opponents back line in the first half, but that energy declined a bit in the second half, also because Olimpia controlled the game well and were in possession on Luqueño’s half in the majority of the second half.

Pitta had decent technical ability, he looked good when attempting a dribble but he will keep looking a bit heavy on his feet when he is trying to turn because of his build. His passing ability was slightly above average as he found his teammates quite often but sometimes didn’t get the pass right. He lost a lot of aerial duels because he failed to jump as his opponent was leaning on him with both arms. Pitta could have done more in these situations to draw a foul. He had a good first touch.

I do not think that his ceiling is much higher than Luqueño but he did make an okay impression.

Rating – B1

Blas Armoa

  • Nationality: Paraguayan
  • Age: 20
  • Date of birth: 03/02/2000
  • Club: Sportivo Luqueño
  • Career: Sportivo Luqueño (Y)
  • Position: Left Wing
  • Secondary position: Left Midfield & Right Wing
  • Preferred foot: Right

Blas Armoa played as a left midfielder in the game against Olimpia Asunción. He did not play a very good game, but showed some good signs nevertheless and he made me interested to watch more footage of him. The Paraguayan midfielder was sticking close to the sideline for the majority of the game, but moved inside a few times as well. However, one time he did this, his teammate was making a run with the ball on his feet in the same direction. Luqueño would have had a 2v1 situation if Armoa stayed wide and the full-back would have had to choose which would leave space for one of the two.

The 20-year-old showed good pace and did well to hold up play at times rather than attempting a dribble when he did not have space to do so. This calmness on the ball is a very good ability to have and it is a sign of maturity, which a lot of young South American wingers don’t have. He spotted space in the counter well but as mentioned above, he did not always make the right decision in his runs, even though it did work out a few times. Blas Armoa could not finish the chance off when he made a good run.

Blas Armoa did well to look over the ball while carrying the ball, assessing his options, but did not make the right decision as he spotted the left-back’s run too late and he played a pass towards him when he was offside. Altogether it was an okay performance by the young Paraguayan who will look to gain experience at this level before eventually moving to a better team in South America.

Rating – A2
