  • B1 – Good, strong player at level
  • B2 – Potential to be strong player at level
  • C – Average for the level, rewatch
  • D – Below average, don’t follow up

GV Maracay did not manage to make a good impression against Monagas SC as their defence was all over the place and they did not work well together. They showed that they have some technical players who could link up occasionally, but overall they got outclassed by Monagas who cruised comfortably to a 3-0 win.

Tony Rodríguez

Player profile:

  • Nationality: Venezuelan
  • Age: 20
  • Date of birth: 28/07/1999
  • Current Club: GV Maracay
  • Career: GV Maracay (Y)
  • Position: attacking midfielder
  • Secondary position: right winger
  • Preferred foot: left

Tony Rodríguez played as the most attacking midfielder for Maracay and even though his time on the ball was quite limited, he managed to make a good impression in this game. In possession, he showed that he is very agile, can turn his opponent very quickly and showed an impressive acceleration occasionally. He liked to drift wide when Maracay were in possession.

During the times that Rodríguez lost possession, he tended to try to get the ball back very aggressively which worked out quite well at times. He seems quite small, but he did not have any problems with his physique in this match. His passing ability was decent but as already mentioned above, Maracay had limited time on the ball. A few times, Rodríguez dribbled past a few opponents before trying to shoot on goal, as there were no other options for him.

Rating: A1

Could be a good, low-cost signing for any Venezuelan team besides the top 3.

Gabriel Reyes

Player profile:

  • Nationality: Venezuelan
  • Age: 16
  • Date of birth: 01/06/2003
  • Current Club: GV Maracay
  • Career: GV Maracay (Y)
  • Position: left-back
  • Preferred foot: left

Gabriel Reyes made his debut for the first team of Maracay and had a tough time against the tricky Yorlen Cordero. It seemed like he needed to adjust to a slightly higher tempo than he is used to in the youth teams of Maracay. He positioned himself way too high up the pitch at all times and did not stay in the defensive line well. This led to him leaving a huge gap in his back which Cordero exploited perfectly.

He was very good in the aerial duels, but lost almost every 1-on-1 duel against Cordero. Reyes had the wrong stance in defence at times which meant that he needed to turn before he could start to sprint. This left open a gap for Cordero to dive in which he did. However, he came back into the duels very strongly and managed to push Cordero off the ball.

After, he made a good run forward and he kept calm, cut back and made sure that Maracay could keep in possession. In possession, he showed some good signs and he liked to get forward. He was quite strong physically, especially for his age, but he still needs to improve in a lot of things.

Rating: B2

I think that he could become a strong player in the Venezuelan league.
