  • C – Average for the level, rewatch

Marcos Senesi

Player profile:

  • Nationality: Argentine
  • Age: 22
  • Date of birth: 10/5/1997
  • Current Club: Feyenoord
  • Career: San Lorenzo
  • Position: central defender
  • Preferred foot: left

Marcos Senesi played as a left centre-back in the match against Porto and made a crucial error before the 3-2 was scored which eventually turned out to be the winner for Porto. He did not anticipate well in this duel and was too late. Also, he got outpaced by his opponent a few times. However, he was very good in the defensive duels, seemed very comfortable on the ball and managed to close gaps that either Botteghin or Malacia left open.

Rating: A2

A disappointing performance by Senesi, who made a crucial error and seemed vulnerable playing with space in his back. However, based on this match he has certainly the potential to play at a higher level and it will be interesting to see how he develops in the coming months.

Luis Sinisterra

Player profile:

  • Nationality: Colombian
  • Age: 20
  • Date of birth: 17/06/1999
  • Current Club: Feyenoord
  • Career: Once Caldas
  • Position: left-winger
  • Secondary position: right-winger, striker
  • Preferred foot: right

Luis Sinisterra played as a striker in this match and needed to attempt duels against the experienced Pepe and Ivan Marcano. It was to be expected that he did not win that many duels. Also, he got isolated quite a bit on top as Porto dominated possession and Feyenoord dropped deep at times.

However, at times he showed great awareness to pick out the right first time pass. Besides that, he has good technique and used this several times to turn away from his opponent, either by using his good first touch or using his agility to twist and turn. He was sloppy at times as well, giving away possession while he just needed to play a simple pass.

Rating: A2

Even though he played in a weaker position, he showed that he has great qualities that he could exploit even better from the wing. Based on this match, I would have been excited to see what Sinisterra can do from the flanks.

Orkun Kökçü

Player profile:

  • Nationality: Turkish & Dutch
  • Age: 19
  • Date of birth: 29/12/2000
  • Current Club: Feyenoord
  • Career: Groningen Youth, Feyenoord Youth
  • Position: attacking midfielder
  • Secondary position: central midfielder
  • Preferred foot: right

Orkun Kökçü played as a left centre-mid and performed okay. In attack, he was very active in possession and his off the ball movement was quite good. He probably could check his shoulder more often, as he sometimes turned the wrong side. Also, his handling speed could be improved. The Turkish midfielder got an assist from a well-taken corner. Kökçü showed that he has a decent technique and that he is able to get past his opponent.

In defence, Kökçü was very active as well, recovering possession at times in transition from attack to defence. Defending is not his best quality though, as he got easily past at times and he seemed quite vulnerable when he needed to defend in the defensive third.

Rating: A2

I would say that he needs another year at Feyenoord before possibly moving to a better team. I think he showed that he has quite some potential in the attacking phase and that he can be effective in putting pressure on the opposition. He definitely needs to be watched more often.

Lutsharel Geertruida

Player profile:

  • Nationality: Dutch
  • Age: 19
  • Date of birth: 18/07/2000
  • Current Club: Feyenoord
  • Career: Sparta Youth, Feyenoord Youth
  • Position: right-back
  • Secondary position: central defender
  • Preferred foot: right

Lutsharel Geertruida needed to man-mark Luís Díaz from right-back and he did this relatively well. However, by following him around especially in the final third, he left open big gaps on the wings which were exploited by Porto very well. When he got into physical duels with Díaz, he won them most of the time. Also, he showed that he is able to slide tackle his opponent well, recovering possession with a last-ditch tackle.

At the 1-0 of Porto, he got drawn out to the sidelines, opening up space for Telles to make a run in-behind and give a cross. From this cross, Díaz scored. In aerial duels, he got beaten with ease at times. Also, Díaz outpaced him several times.

Rating: B2

It will be interesting to see how he performs when he has different tasks. His positioning sense seemed off in this duel, but he showed some good physical ability. Definitely needs to be rewatched.

Tyrell Malacia

Player profile:

  • Nationality: Dutch
  • Age: 20
  • Date of birth: 17/08/1999
  • Current Club: Feyenoord
  • Career: Feyenoord Youth
  • Position: left-back
  • Preferred foot: left

Tyrell Malacia played as a left-back in this game and struggled defensively. Both full-backs of Feyenoord were tasked to man-mark their direct opponents, but at times he followed his direct opponent too much, especially when he tucked inside. He left big gaps open on the left side of the pitch which Porto exploited well a few times. In attack, he made some good overlapping runs and he delivered some nice crosses, giving the assist for the 2-2 of Sam Larsson.

Rating: B2

Not yet a strong player at current level and Malacia should probably stay at Feyenoord for a couple of years. I’m excited to see him play in a different role, where he does not need to man-mark his opponent.

I’ve seen more footage of these players, but these ratings are given purely based on this match!
