Maxx Green is a 21-year-old winger who plays for Canberra Croatia in NPL Capital Territory. Green is almost comically dominant at his current level, which should put him on the radar of fully professional clubs.
Green is a little taller than average for a winger, I would estimate he is about 5’10″ (1.8 m) and he has a reasonably muscular build. Green generally plays as a right winger. Green’s dribbling is fairly mediocre. He does beat players from time to time, but he is not particularly dynamic and I think dribbling would be a weakness for him at a higher level. He is reasonably strong at carrying the ball into space thanks to strong close control. Where Green really shines is his off-the-ball movement. Green is very good at getting into channels, evading markers, and receiving the ball in space. The result of this is that Green gets a huge amount of high-danger shots. Green’s shot selection is excellent, he almost never shoots from bad areas. He is extremely good in the air which makes him a threat with his head as well as his feet. Green is also a strong playmaker from wide areas. Green is consistently able to pick out teammates in dangerous areas with crosses and cut-backs. However, his relatively poor dribbling limits how frequently he is able to put the ball into the box as he cannot beat players 1v1 with enough consistency. He also does not provide very much ball progression through his passing.
Green is not that active defensively. That said, he is very physical so the defensive actions he does make tend to be impactful. It is rare to see Green go into a challenge, at least at this level, and not win it. Green’s pace is only a little above average which probably contributes to being not particularly active defensively.
It must be said that NPL Capital is one of the weaker Australian regional leagues. But, Green is so dominant in it that I still feel confident he could play at a higher level. I see his dribbling and speed as probable weaknesses at a higher level, but his off-ball movement and physical strength could still make him useful. I think he could be a rotation option in the A-League with the potential to develop into a starter. Or, he could be a starter right away at a slightly lower level in Europe or possibly North America.
