Ibrahima Sory Sow is a 16-year-old midfielder who plays for Generation Foot and Senegal U-17.
Sow is listed at 5’7″ (1.73 m) and is a little more muscular than average. Sow is an attacking #8 whose best skill is his dribbling ability. Sow is a very effective ball carrier thanks to strong close control and the ability to beat players 1v1 on the dribble. He also wins quite a lot of fouls due to his strong dribbling ability. Sow’s passing is quite inconsistent. His vision seems to be quite good as he was able to pull off some impressive line-breaking passes. However, his execution was incredibly unreliable and he lost the ball through misplaced passes a lot. This is partly because Sow is a very direct passer and he is usually trying more difficult passes. Poor execution was also a significant culprit for his losing the ball. Sow is a set-piece specialist. He hits free kicks with a lot of power and accuracy, making him a threat from anywhere within sight of the goal. However, from open play, he is not as much of a goal threat. He attempts a lot of long shots which he can pull off from set pieces but are quite wasteful from open play. Despite generally occupying quite advanced positions, Sow does not make very many runs into the box or get very many shots from high-danger areas.
Though he is primarily an attacking player, Sow makes decent defensive contributions as well. He makes quite a lot of interceptions in the final third thanks to strong defensive positioning. He is reasonably strong in physical battles despite his short stature. He has decent speed which allows him to cover a lot of ground and makes him an effective presser.
If Sow can improve the consistency of his passing I could see him playing for a smaller team in a top-5 league. If he remains an inconsistent passer, then I think he will play at the next level down. His dribbling, free kicks, and decent defensive contributions make him an attractive prospect.
