Jacob Brazete (Brisbane Roar)- Scout Report

Jacob Brazete is a 19-year-old Australian Winger who plays for Brisbane Roar in the A-League. Brazete is a graduate of Sydney F.C.’s academy but moved to Brisbane for more game time. In recent weeks he has been starting to come by that game time.

Brazete’s game is very simple. He’s a classic cut inside winger who puts up a lot of dribbles and a lot of shots. Brazete plays on the left side and cuts inside on his right. He is very good at achieving separation and getting shots off. His shot locations are reasonable, he fires off some low-percentage shots but he also uses his ball-carrying ability to get into decent areas as well. This is particularly impressive considering Brisbane Roar are really bad at creating shots. Brazete also wins a lot of fouls with his dribbling. He’s very much a volume dribbler who just runs at the fullback every time he gets the ball and he tries that often enough that he gets off a lot of shots. I think his dribble success rate could improve as he gets a bit stronger and faster. Sometimes he doesn’t quite have the power to leave a fullback in his wake.

The downside of Brazete is that, at this point, there is not a lot happening other than cutting inside and shooting. I think his skills could lend themselves to more playmaking but at this point, he hasn’t shown he can set up teammates. He hasn’t shown much defensive contribution so far. I would also like to see him make more runs into the box without the ball (though playing for Brisbane Roar provides limited opportunities to do that).

Brazete might be a bit limited but, at the end of the day, he’s generating shots at a young age on a team that has only won once in its first 13 games. I think that portends good things for his career. I could see him following a similar career trajectory to Jed Drew who has recently signed for an as-yet-unnamed Austrian Bundesliga team.
