Matej Sin (Banik Ostrava) – Scout Report

Matej Sin is a 20-year-old, two-footed midfielder/forward who plays for Baník Ostrava. This season, he has recorded 4 goals and 3 assists in 18 matches, including several substitute appearances. The young Czech talent, who has spent his entire career at Ostrava, has also been called up to the Czech national team after previously representing various youth selections.

Sin is physically strong despite his average height of 1.80 meters. He uses his body well in duels and is difficult to dispossess. While he often plays on the wings, he is also comfortable operating as a number 10. In that role, he finds space intelligently and makes well-timed runs into the box. As a left winger, he stands out with his smart body feints, frequently wrong-footing defenders. His pace is decent, though he is not the fastest at top speed. However, he compensates for this with clever movement and feints. He is also not afraid to use skill moves, often showcasing his technical ability. When in possession, he exudes composure, which is a highly positive trait.

Sin’s passing ability is another key strength. His 4 assists this season highlight his vision and ability to deliver precise through balls, creating major goal-scoring opportunities. His low crosses are particularly effective, but his high crosses could use more precision and power. Most of his goals come from inside the box, where his two-footed ability makes him a clinical finisher. While he possesses a strong shot, he does not always make the best decisions when it comes to shooting. He could benefit from taking more shots, as this would increase his overall output.

Defensively, Sin is solid but not outstanding. He is not a liability, but he does not particularly excel in this area either. Thanks to his strong body positioning, he is not easily dribbled past, but he should be more disciplined in tracking back during counterattacks. At times, he can appear a bit passive and needs to engage in duels with more aggression.

Sin is a highly talented player with an intelligent playing style. If he adds more intensity to his defensive work and improves his off-the-ball effort, he has the potential to take a significant step forward. Given his young age and experience at the top level, a move to a league like the Eredivisie perhaps to a club such as FC Twente or to a team like Braga in Portugal could be a logical next step in Sin’s career.
