Report:
Facundo Torres stands at 1.77 meters with an average build. Despite having a good frame for a winger, Torres is underwhelming in physical duels. He shies away from loose ball duels and sometimes loses balance in shoulder-to-shoulder duels. Facundo Torres does not quite have a good burst of speed and displays average speed over longer distances. The Uruguayan is not very effective defensively, often getting dribbled past easily and not reading the game well.
Having played as a right-winger, left-winger and attacking midfielder/second striker for Orlando City, Facundo Torres offers a lot of versatility. I think he is at best playing in central zones due to his lack of burst in attacking 1v1s. Facundo Torres, playing on the wing, often slows down attacks as he does not have the speed and 1v1 ability to dribble past opponents in transition. As a result, he often cuts back and plays a backwards pass, meaning that the opponent’s defenders can track back easily. Playing in central zones, Facundo Torres occasionally needs too much time on the ball to make a decision in the final third. He sometimes only needs one touch on the ball, playing one-touch passes, but when he does not immediately spot a teammate in space he can take too long on the ball.
Facundo Torres has nice on-the-ball technique. His touch under pressure is very clean and he often turns the right way under pressure. Torres has good passing in tight spaces, although he mostly goes for the safe option. His in-swinging crosses from deeper areas on the right wing are at a good level, although he does not often go for them. The 23-year-old Uruguayan does not like to put crosses into the box from the byline on the right wing with his weaker right foot, as he always cuts back to his stronger left foot. His one-footedness also holds him back playing in central zones. Due to his lack of speed, Facundo Torres prefers to have the ball at his feet and does not make many runs in behind, although he makes good runs into the channels every now and then. The Urugayan player has good ball-striking from range but does not very often try to shoot from distance. I think, with his ball-striking, he should sometimes go for his own success. Facundo Torres would be more effective if he tried to take more risks, because his through passing is at a good level and he also has above average vision.
All in all, Facundo Torres should not be an interesting player for clubs battling for European football in the top 5 leagues. The Uruguayan player will not be a good value for money transfer, as he will cost more than €15m. With that being said, I think Facundo Torres should focus on playing as an attacking midfielder or second striker for Orlando City. He could make a transfer to the Liga MX in the future but I don’t think he will ever be a strong player for a club battling for European football in the top 5 leagues.
