ARIEL MOSOR (PIAST GLIWICE) – SCOUT REPORT

Ariel Mosór is a Polish 20-year-old center back that plays for Piast Gliwice. He mostly plays as a right center back and is right footed with a quite decent left foot. The 184-centimeter-long defender is a youth product from the Polish record champions Legia Warsaw but couldn’t break fully through in the first squad. Ariel is a key asset for the Polish U21, but he could get called up for the national team of Poland very soon. At the time of writing, Ariel played 80 games for the club from the Silesian region.

Physically wise; Mosór has a mesomorphic build, but still displays good strength in duels. He pushes the attacker in front of him with his chest, using his shoulders and arms to get in front of the attacker. His pace is pretty good for a center back, but his acceleration can be improved. Mosór turns pretty quickly, and the same can be said about his pace when he switches directions while running. His heading abilities are really good. He wins a lot of duels in the air and has a powerful, accurate header. His jumping reach is visibly very well.

Ariel Mosór looks very experienced defensively for his age. The Polish defender looks well in 1v1 matchups against attackers or wingers. He marks and tracks his opponent very well, definitely during crosses from the side of the pitch. He positions himself very well during crosses without his man as well, as he was clearing the ball of the line in a couple of matches. The Pole gives the attackers a bit of space when they’re without the ball, but sometimes he gives too much space as well. If the opposing attacker gets the ball, he often corrects it with stepping in and pressing the attacker with the ball, but if the back would lose his man it could be dangerous. He clears the ball well. Mosor doesn’t always kick the ball forward to lose the danger but he likes to keep the ball, look around and pass to an open man nearby and start a counterattack. During attacks of the opponents Ariel almost always stays near the center line of the pitch but likes to rush a bit forward if an opposing attacker gets the ball to his feet or is waiting for a high pass to arrive. He doesn’t foul very often and doesn’t search confrontations during heated moments.

Offensively, Mosór is pretty good for a central defender. He’s very calm with the ball, taking his time looking around and finding the best option to get the attack going. If an opponent starts to press him, he doesn’t stress and clear the ball but passes to an open teammate nearby. He moves often without ball as well, so if the same situation happens for somebody else in his defense he will let him know as he is pretty talkative on the pitch. His short passes are very accurate, and they mostly go forward or sideways. The long passes are alright, but they aren’t really consistent. One game a couple of them land perfectly near a teammate, and the other game the passes are too hard and not very accurate. The defender positions himself very well during corners and free kicks. He almost never shoots, his only tries on goal are mostly all headers.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Ariel makes a move in the summer but he needs to choose a club that won’t let him sit on the bench too often. Bundesliga or Serie A would be two interesting options for him, as he still could improve against good opposition. But he will definitely be one of the important players in the Polish national team in the future.
